ONE KOREA

ONE KOREA

A delegation of the National Council of Churches of the Republic of Korea visited
Moscow on June 25, 2019 Our brothers and sisters from Korea represented
various Christian churches. They invited us to join them in prayer for the
unification of Korea, to work together for organizing humanitarian aid to the
people of North Korea and lifting the sanctions.
The meeting was hosted by the Associated Russian Union of Christians of
Evangelical Faith. (Photo by the media-service of the Union).

Representatives of our Protestant community expressed solidarity and support for
our brothers and sisters from Korea.
This is part of my personal story. It reminds me of my ancestors’ sufferings. My
great-grandparents emigrated from Korea to the Russian Empire in the second half
of the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century many Koreans living in
Russia participated in the struggle for the independence of Korea from the
Japanese occupation. In 1937 my grandparents, parents and other relatives were
deported from the Far East to Kazakhstan. Many lost their loved ones. You can
learn the story of my family from the video

Thousands of Koreans are separated by the 38th Parallel today. A brother cannot
meet with his sister. A father does not see how his children grow up. It is the pain
and suffering of the whole people and all Koreans living in diaspora.
The time will come when Korea will be united. It is not going to be easy. I think
that the citizens of North Korea will be shocked by what they will see outside their
country and when they compare it with their reality, as we were in 1991 As
Christians in the post-Soviet area we can better understand and support them. In
the meantime, we pray for peace on the Korean Peninsula and do our best to see
Korea united.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are
those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the gentle, for they shall
inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for
they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:3-9
